I use my computer for everything.... gaming, photo editing, music, videos, movie rentals, word processing, research, e-mails, internet, updates, etc. I have seen a pattern with all my friends, coworkers and strangers when it comes to using a computer.
I often find myself often training people on the very basics:
E-mail and internet use, and learning how to do attachments and other basic stuff. Gaming, optimizing computers for them (I am a heavy duty gamer, and have spent many years gaming) Photo Editing (I was once a graphic designer, so I know how to edit photos and do graphic design) Updating the computer and security protection Customizing the computer for each user's needs based on what they want to do with the computer. Troubleshooting and maintenance of a computer. The basics of navigating around a computer (Windows, Mac or Linux) Downloading video or music files into iTunes or Windows Media Player
It is weird that I am uniquely qualified as the heaviest computer user around. The only thing I don't do is program my computer... but that is OK. The AVERAGE everyday computer user will NEVER program their computer. They only want to do the basics.... videos, music, photos, e-mails, internet and gaming. It boils down to helping people do the basics.
I think that is where Best Buy, Walmart, Frys and others fail. They are more than happy to sell people a new computer, but fail to tel them how to use it. They charge an arm and a leg to train people on those computers. It is not fair to sell someone a computer and not train them properly how to use or take good care of that computer.
The company that I bought my Apple Imac from (Crywolf Consulting) does free training classes for some computer subjects and charges for other classes.
They focus on Mac only. I have not seen Best Buy do any training classes. Compusa did have training classes, but they are out of business in the San Diego area.
I thought of doing classes in both Windows and Apple. I can do both.... after 20 years of hands on Apple and Windows experience. I can even do something where I show the simalarities between Windows Vista and Leopard, as well as the differences.
