I've heard rumors of A Walmart Linux machine, but have not seen one yet. You may not like Walmart, but they have the means to bring Linux into the mainstream, which is what all the Linux fans are hoping for. That means better hardware support for Linux, and more software developers will get on the Linux bandwagon. It will only make Linux better and give computer users a 3rd choice, instead of only Windows or Mac.... I know of people who don't like either one..
I will have to go check the computers out! I have Ubuntu installed on a Sony Vaio machine at home. The Sony originally came with Windows ME, and it was very unreliable. Windows ME is the WORST windows ever developed by Microsoft. It has always been a headache to me, with frequent crashing, bugs, etc.
I really like Ubuntu, as it is more user friendly than many Linux OS. I may have to show it to you one of these days when all is done with your construction. Dell is taking the chance of selling Ubuntu machines, but I am dissappointed that you have to REALLY search for the Ubuntu machines on the Dell website!! They keep pushing the Windows Vista, as Microsoft is putting the pressure on with the licensing and making money. It is almost like Dell is Hiding the Ubuntu machines, and hoping that you will change your mind and buy a Windows Vista or XP machine instead.... frustrating for fans of Linux to see a major computer maker, still not making Linux easy for the masses.
