COMMON IBM LAPTOP PROBLEMS WE’VE FIXED
- Sudden computer freezes
- Touch pad/Mouse doesn’t work
IBM thinkpads have had reported issues by some users. One problem was their laptop would suddenly freeze and the touchpad/mouse doesn’t work. Upon trying to restart it may take several attempts because the device will freeze again during start up. The reason this happens is because there’s a problem with the AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) Link Power Management doesn’t work properly with some drives – it’s not clear whether this is a fault with the drive itself, the controller or the Rapid Storage Technology software. Another reason this happens is because the cooling fans aren’t working properly which causes the computer to freeze. Solutions:Clean Cooling fans/Make sure they work properly
- Computer struggling to perform basic tasks like opening a new browser window
- The laptop abruptly shuts down on its own
Users have also reported their computers become very hot, too hot to touch. This can cause the computer to shut off or make it unable to open a browser window .This can be caused by different reasons. One of them can be caused by a faulty battery, which overheats the computer. Another reason is because the laptops have little open access to air, and poor built-in fans that are purposed to push hot air out. Essentially, Lenovo laptops have no fans to bring cool air in, and plastic is covering the most-worked part of the machine. Solutions:Replace battery, Make sure cooling fans are working properly
Hard Drive Failures
- Unrecognizable hard drive
An installed hard disk drive is not recognized. When replacing the system disk with one that is not a ThinkPad option designed for the specific model, the BIOS will display an “Error” warning during every boot. The system may still boot successfully, but may be unreliable or slow.Additionally, the following ATA commands are implemented by ThinkPad-branded drives but are not supported by most other laptop drives: Solutions:Replace hard drive
